A scored 10 point whitetail in the app: final score 160 6/8 typical, likely range 155 2/8 to 166, gross 163 4/8, with each measurement listed for the right and left antler.

Every line on the chart

Each antler is read on its own: the main beam, every tine, all four circumferences, the inside spread and any abnormal points. Every number comes with the low and high it could be, so you always know how sure the read is.

Take the photos

The front photo is all the app needs to score. The more you give it, the better it does: side and rear photos, a dollar bill for scale and your own point count all tighten the score.

  • Front

Facing the deer, both antlers in view, a dollar bill flat under the antler bases.Required
  • Left side

The left antler in profile, the whole beam in the frame.Additional
  • Right side

The right antler in profile, the whole beam in the frame.Additional
  • Rear

From behind, both beams in view.Additional
  • Stand 6 to 8 feet back, zoom to 2x and hold the phone level with the antler bases.
  • Any US bill works because they are all the same size. A gift card or hotel key card works too. Never use a credit or debit card.
  • Take photo in the app checks each shot and tells you what to fix before you use it.
A Field Judge call in the app: Shooter, 88 percent chance he clears 130 inches, likely gross 129 to 157, with notes on what the photo allowed.

Field Judge: is he a shooter?

Send a photo of a live buck from your phone or a trail camera. Set the minimum he has to beat, yours, your camp's or your outfitter's, and Field Judge makes the call with a likely gross range.

It also shows what the photo let it see, the clarity, distance, light and angle, so you know how much to trust the call. The call is an estimate from a photo. Whether to take the shot is always your decision.

Honest about what a photo can do

  • Every score shows a likely range. Front-only photos get a wider one, and the app tells you when it had no bill in the photo and had to use the deer for scale.
  • We test the app against racks scored by official measurers, and we run that test again whenever we change how it reads.
  • A photo score is a field estimate, not an entry score. For the record books, have the rack measured by an official measurer after the 60 day drying period.
